An Exhibit of Cut Paper Compositions by Local Artist Brookye Keeney
October 2007
Phelps Mansion Museum
Meet the Artist during First Friday October 5th, 2007
“As the artist, I create a new focus by putting a frame around ordinary objects that may be overlooked on most days. These snapshots, removed from the distractions, provide an opportunity to enjoy the small stuff.”
Brookye’s cut paper compositions are a deeper investigation of a project
assigned to her as an art student at Alfred University. The idea is to
break down an image into basic shapes and values and then rebuild the image.
Each shape is cut out of paper, which has been
washed with colored India ink diluted with water to create a range of
values. Brookye then layers the paper shapes starting with the background
and working to the foreground.
