"Romantic Realism" is the title of the September 4 First Friday art exhibit at Phelps Mansion Museum.  Local painter Robert Keller will exhibit portraits and still lifes - oil paintings on canvas.

Professor emeritus at Broome Community College, Keller was the founder of the Art and Design Departments at the college where he taught for thirty years.  He also taught art history at Roberson Museum where he was the first exhibition designer.

A past president and life member of The Fine Arts Society of the Southern Tier (FASST), Keller also served as president of the Binghamton Museum of Fine Arts.  He is also a member of the Phelps Mansion Museum where he serves as a docent.

Besides exhibiting his work locally, he has had shows at Lord & Taylor in New York City; at the Naval Training Center in San Diego, CA; at Serendipity Gallery in Kansas City, MO; and in Palm Beach, FL.

The September 4 show, part of the Downtown Binghamton First Friday Art Walk, is open from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in the ballroom of the museum.  The artist will be on hand to discuss his work with visitors, and free refreshments will be available.  The downtown trolley stops at the museum.
