"Romantic Realism" is the title
of the September 4 First Friday art exhibit at Phelps Mansion
Museum. Local painter Robert Keller will exhibit portraits and
still lifes - oil paintings on canvas.
Professor emeritus at Broome Community College,
Keller was the founder of the Art and Design Departments at the
college where he taught for thirty years. He also taught art
history at Roberson Museum where he was the first exhibition
designer.
A past president and life member of The Fine Arts
Society of the Southern Tier (FASST), Keller also served as
president of the Binghamton Museum of Fine Arts. He is also a
member of the Phelps Mansion Museum where he serves as a docent.
Besides exhibiting his work locally, he has had shows
at Lord & Taylor in New York City; at the Naval Training Center in
San Diego, CA; at Serendipity Gallery in Kansas City, MO; and in
Palm Beach, FL.
The September 4 show, part of the Downtown Binghamton
First Friday Art Walk, is open from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in the ballroom
of the museum. The artist will be on hand to discuss his work with
visitors, and free refreshments will be available. The downtown
trolley stops at the museum.
