Second Sunday Chamber Concerts

Violinist Janey Choi at the Phelps Mansion Museum

On March 11, violinist Janey Choi and pianist Mimi Solomon we present the second in the Chamber Music at the Phelps concerts for 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in the ballroom of the museum at 191 Court Street, Binghamton. Dr. Choi, who holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from Rutgers University and teaches at Binghamton University as well as in New York. She will present a program with internationally reknowned pianist Mimi Solomon featuring Mozart's Violin Sonata in G (K. 301), Robert Palmer's Violin Sonata, and Brahms' Violin Sonata in G "Regenlied". There is a "meet the performers" reception after the concert.

This program is part of a chamber music series at the Phelps Mansion Museum, formerly known as Second Sunday at the Phelps. The series consists of three programs in the winter/spring and three in the fall of each year. The series started in September 2007 has featured high quality music in all 27 of the concerts. The series is funded in part by grants of the Broome County Arts Council and the Chenango County Council of the Arts. Admission to the concert is $10.00 and reservations are requested by calling 797-3822.

Novo4tet at the Phelps Mansion Museum

On April 15, the Novo4tet will be presenting another program at the Phelps Mansion Museum in the Museum's Chamber Music Series. The Novo4tet is composed of the principal string section players of the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra: Uli Speth (concert master of the BPO), Amelia Christian (principal of the 2nd violin section), Martha Brody (principal of the viola section) and Hakan Tayga-Hromek (principal of the cello section). We have asked they to play on this series several times because they have developed into a fine string quartet. They will be performing with the Philharmonic Orchestra on Saturday, April 14, and will play music be two of the composers from the Saturday performance in the Sunday concert at the Phelps.
